Detailed Product Overview
The portable high voltage insulation tester IR5051 combines standard insulation measurement capabilities with a dedicated PV measurement function, allowing insulation resistance testing of photovoltaic systems even during power generation. It offers five insulation test voltage ranges from 250 V to 5 kV and seven insulation resistance ranges from 10 MΩ to 10 TΩ. The instrument combines high measurement performance with Bluetooth communication, allowing direct data transfer to smartphones or tablets for quick documentation and analysis.
A key feature of the IR5051 is its dedicated measurement section for PV insulation testing. This section supports test voltages up to 2000 V and resistance measurements up to 100 GΩ. There’s no need to interrupt power generation or wait until nightfall – the IR5051 performs PV insulation tests during daytime operation, completing each measurement in just 4 seconds. This significantly reduces effort when testing hundreds of points across a large PV installation.
Designed for demanding on-site applications, the IR5051 combines a compact, lightweight form factor with robust protection. The included hard case ensures dust and water resistance in IP65 environments. With a 2000 V rating under measurement category CAT III, the instrument supports safe testing of PV systems in this classification. An automatic discharge function eliminates residual voltage after testing, while shielded test leads and a built-in guard circuit reduce interference for stable, reliable measurements.
Insulation resistance values are useful for instant evaluation but insufficient for assessing aging, moisture, and contamination in detail. Additionally, insulation resistance fluctuates with temperature and humidity, making a single measurement unreliable for determining long-term degradation. To address this, the IR5051 includes measurement functions for Polarization Index (PI), Dielectric Absorption Ratio (DAR), and Dielectric Discharge (DD) to provide a more comprehensive assessment.
PI analyzes insulation resistance over time to evaluate aging and contamination, while DAR quickly measures the effects of moisture and contamination. DD detects deep internal insulation degradation by measuring the discharge characteristics of accumulated electrical charges. By utilizing these functions, the IR5051 ensures accurate insulation diagnosis, improving equipment reliability and reducing failure risks.
The IR5051 can be expanded with the optional Z3210 Bluetooth adapter. When connected, it enables wireless data transfer to a PC or tablet, simplifying data storage and analysis while improving overall workflow efficiency.
