On-board tests in the automotive industry

The new PW4001 analyzer series is ideal for the development of the most efficient technologies in, among others, the automotive industry, both for traditional combustion engines and fully electric vehicles. These tests can of course be carried out under stationary laboratory conditions, now in an extended operating temperature range from -20 °C to 50 °C (with guaranteed measurement accuracy), but the new PW4001 series analysers also allow for DC battery power supply, significantly expanding the possibilities for on-board test deployment. In addition, the CAN input function allows the analyzers in this new series to obtain battery voltage readings via CAN communication and the dedicated data outputs already installed in the vehicle - which means that the performance can be determined without direct voltage measurement. This is particularly important where safety measures make direct access to the HV terminals difficult, if not impossible, for example when testing complete electric vehicles.
Advanced analysis and testing functions of the PW4001 Power Analyzer

In addition to providing numerical results, the PW4001 also offers a graphical display similar to what you get with an oscilloscope. With four voltage and four current channels, eight signals can be monitored simultaneously and recorded at a high sampling rate. Zoom, trigger and cursor functions allow detailed analysis of transients, while the integrated 15 GB memory supports long-term recording of measured parameters.
Automatic mode detection for battery storage and for recuperation
In applications such as energy storage systems (ESS) or regenerative braking drive systems, the calculation of efficiency depends on the operating mode. During charging or generator operation, the relationship between input and output power is inverse to that during discharge or drive. The PW4001 automatically detects these modes and adjusts the efficiency calculation accordingly. This prevents incorrect results such as apparent efficiency greater than 100% during regenerative operation.
