    Detailed Product Overview

The HIOKI PW8001 Power Analyzer is a state-of-the-art instrument engineered for the most demanding power analysis applications, delivering exceptionally precise measurements when evaluating the efficiency of next-generation high-accuracy electrical devices and systems. The PW8001 features eight slots for power input units, all of which can be freely combined and used together with the integrated motor analysis function.
To configure the PW8001, users can choose from two types of input units that can be mixed and matched within a single instrument to meet specific application requirements.

High-Precision Input Units for Flexible Configurations

The U7005 High Bandwidth Input Unit provides ultimate precision with ±0.03% basic accuracy, a 15 MHz sampling frequency, 18-bit A/D conversion, and a maximum input voltage of 1000 VAC. It is ideal for applications such as efficiency measurement of SiC- and GaN-based inverter motor drives, as well as accurate inductor-loss measurement under load. Its outstanding external noise immunity of 110 dB at 100 kHz ensures stable and accurate results even when operating near high-frequency switching power semiconductors.
For high-voltage applications, the U7001 Input Unit delivers ±0.07% basic accuracy, a maximum input voltage of 1500 VDC, a 2.5 MHz sampling frequency, 16-bit A/D conversion, and a maximum voltage-to-ground rating of 1500 VDC CAT II. It is well suited for applications requiring lower bandwidth, such as efficiency testing of industrial IGBT motor drives, wind turbines, and PV power converters.
When paired with HIOKI’s extensive range of high-accuracy, high-bandwidth current sensors, probes, and direct-connection current boxes, the PW8001 provides a complete and highly reliable measurement solution covering everything from small electronic devices to large-scale power systems.

Automatic Phase Shift Correction and Power Spectrum Analysis

Because both the PW8001 and the associated current sensors are developed and manufactured by HIOKI, the instrument supports an advanced automatic phase-shift correction function. This ensures highly accurate phase-angle measurement between voltage and current, even at high frequencies and low power factors.
The PW8001 also features a unique Power Spectrum Analysis function. Unlike traditional FFT-based harmonic analysis, which calculates harmonics only relative to the fundamental frequency, this function covers the analyzer’s entire frequency spectrum. It provides immediate insight into high-frequency power components, equipping developers with valuable data for optimizing system efficiency.

    Advanced Functions and Expandability

Additional advanced functions—such as wideband harmonic analysis and motor analysis—ensure precise and reliable power evaluation for a broad range of power-electronics applications, including the development of high-efficiency converters, electric drivetrains, and electric motors.
A 1 ms update rate enables high-speed data refresh, allowing accurate detection and analysis of rapid power fluctuations, such as those occurring during EV battery charging and discharging. This capability provides exceptionally fast responsiveness without compromising measurement accuracy.
The optical-link function allows two PW8001 analyzers to be interconnected, expanding the total number of measurement channels to 16. This enables fully synchronized power measurements and efficiency calculations across multiple inputs, optimizing complex test setups and eliminating timing discrepancies thanks to synchronized sampling of all channels.
