Detailed Product Overview
The RM3545A-2 Resistance Meter combines high-precision DC resistance measurement with built-in multiplexer capability for automated multi-channel testing. It covers 13 resistance ranges from 1 mΩ to 1200 MΩ and supports a maximum test current of 1 A, ensuring stable and repeatable results across a wide variety of components and materials. With a 6 ½-digit display, 1 nΩ resolution, and basic accuracy of ±0.045 % rdg ± 0.010 % f.s., the RM3545A-2 delivers immediate, high-precision readings without requiring warm-up or manual zero adjustment.
Fast measurement times of just 2.3 ms (10 Ω range, FAST mode) support high-throughput testing and short cycle times—ideal for automated inspection systems and production environments. The RM3545A-2 includes all the functions of the RM3545A-1 and adds integrated multiplexer functionality for efficient multi-point measurements.
Integrated Multiplexer Capability
The RM3545A-2 can be equipped with up to two optional Z3003 Multiplexer Cards, each providing 10 measurement channels in 4-wire mode. With both cards installed, the instrument can automatically measure up to 20 channels in sequence, enabling fast resistance evaluation of multiple DUTs without manual reconnection. This internal switching solution significantly reduces system size, wiring complexity, and cost compared to external multiplexer setups.
For automation and data acquisition, the RM3545A-2 includes LAN, USB, and RS-232C interfaces for communication with PCs and controllers, as well as an EXT I/O port for external triggering and pass/fail control. The analog D/A output (0–1.5 V DC) allows real-time monitoring or feedback control. The command-monitor function displays communication commands and responses on the instrument’s screen, simplifying debugging during integration and minimizing setup time.
Advanced Precision Functions
To maintain consistent accuracy under changing temperature conditions, the RM3545A-2 features a Temperature Compensation (TC) function that automatically references measured resistance values to a defined temperature. This compensates for material temperature coefficients—such as copper’s typical 0.4 % per °C. Temperature can be monitored using the supplied Z2001 sensor or a compatible external analog thermometer.
The Offset Voltage Compensation (OVC) function improves measurement stability by applying current in both directions and averaging the results, effectively suppressing thermoelectric and internal offset voltages. The Temperature Rise function calculates the actual temperature increase of the DUT from resistance changes and ambient temperature, while the Contact Check function ensures proper probe contact to minimize measurement errors.
Future-Proof Investment
The RM3545A-2 is designed for flexibility and long-term scalability. One or two Z3003 Multiplexer Cards can be installed at any time, allowing users to easily upgrade from a single-channel configuration to an automated multi-channel system. Installation takes only about two minutes using a Phillips screwdriver—enabling a smooth transition from manual or prototype measurements to fully automated testing without replacing the instrument.
For applications requiring more than 20 channels, the RM3545A-2 can be seamlessly integrated with the HIOKI SW1002 Multiplexer System, expanding capacity to up to 132 channels in 4-wire mode.
