Detailed Product Overview
The HIOKI SP7001-90 CAN Sensor Set enables non-intrusive measurement of CAN and CAN FD signals in long-term or in-vehicle testing environments. It combines the SP7001 non-contact CAN sensor, a pair of SP9200 screw-type signal probes, and the SP7100 CAN interface to provide stable, vibration-resistant signal acquisition without modifying vehicle wiring. Using capacitive coupling, the two SP9200 probes are fixed onto the insulated CAN H and CAN L lines to detect differential signals through the cable sheath. This method enables accurate real-time acquisition without galvanic contact or interference with the circuit, avoiding wire stripping, connector access, short-circuit risks, connector wear, and induced noise. Since the sensor does not alter bus characteristics, it prevents ECU lockouts and allows safe observation of communication in fully assembled vehicles.
Screw type probes and Vector compatibility
The screw-type design of the SP9200 ensures a secure and vibration-resistant attachment, making the setup ideal for long-term or in-vehicle applications requiring stable signal acquisition.
The SP7100 CAN interface reconstructs the detected signal and outputs it through a 9-pin D-sub connector compatible with Vector Informatik interfaces and the HIOKI PW4001 Power Analyzer. This enables direct connection to CAN analysis tools or to the PW4001 without additional adapters. Powered from a 10–30 V DC supply, the SP7100 provides two input channels for simultaneous monitoring of up to two independent CAN buses. It supports speeds from 125 kbit/s to 3 Mbit/s (CAN / CAN FD) with a typical delay of 130 ns, ensuring precise timing and waveform integrity even at high CAN FD data rates.
The SP7001-90 set includes one SP7001 sensor and one pair of SP9200 probes for measuring a single CAN bus. The second input can be used by adding another SP7001 and either an SP9200 screw-type or SP9250 clamp-type probe set.
Power analysis with PW4001
When used with the HIOKI PW4001 Power Analyzer, the SP7001-90 provides CAN-based voltage data synchronized with current readings from external sensors. This enables accurate power calculation on high-voltage systems without direct connection to battery terminals, increasing operator safety and test efficiency. To interpret or decode CAN data, the user must supply a DBC file containing signal identifiers and scaling parameters. The PW4001 uses this information to extract the correct voltage value from the CAN data stream and combine it with the measured current for precise power analysis.
The SP7001-90 can also be used independently with Vector-compatible systems or other CAN analysis tools. In combination with the PW4001, it forms a safe, fast, and reliable solution for non-intrusive CAN signal acquisition and power analysis throughout the automotive development process.
